A happy library opening the future

As cultural welfare facilities became relatively scarce compared to the growing population due to the development of housing sites in Wonho, Doryang, and Bonggok districts, the need to build a cultural infrastructure has emerged to solve local residents' needs and to respond to the informatization trends.

In April 2003, the city of Gumi established a cultural infrastructure establishment plan and secured a total project budget of KRW 7.1 billion, with KRW 1.6 billion coming from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and KRW 5.5 billion from municipal expenditures. After the feasibility study was conducted and a resident briefing session was held, a design competition for library construction was held on July 30, 2004, and construction started in November 2005 on a total land area of 11,837.30㎡ and a building area of 4,825.97 ㎡ (1 floor below ground and 3 above ground). The construction of Bonggok Library was completed in May 2007 and opened in November of the same year.
